Owning a piece of real estate in the digital world is relatively easy. But when it comes to getting returns from your investment, mere digital presence does not take you anywhere. Patient and persistent nurturing of your website or blog can, however, put you on a fast track towards the financial success of your endeavour.
Google doles out millions of dollars year after year to the successful owners of web-based businesses. But, beneath the wrapper, when you look at it, you are in fact helping Google enhance its revenues through your website with thousands or perhaps millions of unique visitors month after month.
Have you ever wondered why you’re not on the top in Google’s paid results, even after bidding high?
Have you ever wondered why you’re not on the top in Google’s paid results, even after bidding high? Paying high doesn’t necessarily place your Ad in the top position in SERPs, you must consider a few other things, such as quality score, which SEO can fix. Hence, consider doing SEO services to your website might help you bring better organic customer traffic which in turn increases your quality score.
Landing page, optimised for the particular Ad group, plays a vital role in the quality score which we can improve with SEO. A lot of SEO companies claim to increase quality score, but I have come across only a few who are actually worth trying. One of them is Weboptimizers, and SEO services by Weboptimizers help in optimising the landing pages of various paid search campaigns.
In my opinion, it’s always better to only choose an SEO expert who offers SEO services for small businesses who just want to target local audiences only. Research if the services are affordable and offer no-contract options.
However, the major attributes that will set you on the right course are:
- Patience
- Consistency
- Knowledge
- Persistence
Let us now examine how you start this journey of monetizing your digital presence and perhaps make a decent livelihood out of that.
Understanding Google Ads
Google runs an advertising service called AdSense to place sponsored ads on websites. The ads that can appear on your site or blog will be decided by Google automatically once you have concluded setting up the blog/website and Google accepts it for participation.
Getting more and more unique visitors to your website is a task that you should focus on. That brings into focus some of the fundamentals before you even complete the construction of your website/blog.sponsored ads
a) Populate your site
Google will not accept websites/blogs which have little or no content. The first task, therefore, is filling your site with some content. Get some beautiful pictures to accompany the content. Make sure that the images are relevant to the content. If you can get your hands on some related videos, embed them in your content.
b) Spend enough time
Understanding your Ads account and navigating through it once Google has granted approval for your website/blog. All the nitty gritty’s are essential for your success.
c) Configuring the Ads
After Google starts placing the ads on your website/blog, you will also need to configure them. The HTML code required for this purpose will be provided by Google and can be accessed through the “Ads Setup” tab.
You will see multiple options when you click on the tab and what is of immediate relevance to you is the “Ads for content” link. After the site is set up, you will receive some more codes which can just be copied and pasted to your website.
d) Explore
Explore the “Ads for search” tab and find that search box which can go on to your site. So when a visitor is searching for information using this facility on your website, Google recognises it as an ad is clicked on by the visitor and ads for specific products start coming to your site.
e) Minimum threshold
Look for the lowest threshold at which Google will start paying you. It means that you should accumulate a minimum earning before Google writes a check in your name. Once you reach the threshold for the first time, you will also have to paste an HTML code into your website. For blog owners, embedding the code into the blog template should work better than stuffing it on each post you create.
f) PIN Number
This is also the stage when you should receive a PIN number from Google. You should expect an old fashioned snail mail from Google with a card for your Ads account. Do remember that after you have complied with the instructions to activate the card, you may need to wait calmly for a few days, before you can draw first blood.
Precautions
Once the Ads program is fully set up, there are certain precautions you need to take to avoid getting penalised by Google.
a) Clicking on the ads on your web/blog page –
This is an absolute NO, and you should NEVER click on the ads on your blog/page for any reason whatsoever. You get paid by Google based on the number of clicks received by the ads. Therefore, if you click your ads, it will be reckoned as fraud and the least punishment Google will hand out is kicking you out from your Ads account.
You should also make sure that other family members or friends using a computer are also aware of this condition. Therefore, if one of them is looking at your site, they should also keep off the ads. In other words, any click coming from your computer will be counted as a fraud.
b) Your earnings will correspond to the traffic you generate
In your anxiety to get more money from Google, never try dubious methods. Genuine traffic alone will take you to the heights you expect to scale. Do not expect your blog or website to support your regular expenses. Remember that you are investing only your time and knowledge into the business.
Allow your efforts to gain roots and start yielding the fruits. Bear in mind that each click on the ads translates to just a cent or two and not all the people who visit your site will click on the ads. When the traffic to your site climbs into decent four digit numbers or 5 digit numbers, you will see the money flowing at regular intervals. There are no shortcuts to gain this position.
c) Ads for products that you sell
If you are already selling stuff through your blog/website, never put the related ads on the site. If you do that, you are inadvertently promoting your competitors.
d) Keep your focus on the sales copy and the time that a user spends on your page. Clicking on other links from the page does not help your cause.
Remember that the most successful people in the Ads program had invested a significant amount of time, knowledge and money before they started earning anything worthwhile from their efforts. Many individuals who receive four digit checks from Google have multiple blogs or websites. Correspondingly this would also mean that blogging or websites is a full-time business for them and not a passive activity.
